I am going mainly off of an 07 Redbook....and the cheesy coin value magazine price guides. I have just been browsing Ebay for some barber halves, and the prices seem to be on the high side. Anyone care to let me know what the current pricing for the following coins is....?? 1913p 1914p 1915p I'm mainly interested in VG and F pricing. I'm just trying to see what the premium is on these coins i'm looking at. Thanks for your help.
Hey, Thanks Alot. I thought everything seemed high.... I dont even really mind paying a bit more than greysheet. Its just that I cannot find a clean example in VG-F for anywhere close to greysheet on ebay. Almost every coin has scratches all over it, or they appear to be cleaned, or the rims are worn to the letters, or the edges are all banged up! I have been asking myself a few questions along this hunt I've been on for the past week or so... Is this just the way it is with such low grade coins?? Am I passing up deals?? Are the coins really just demanding the premium over greysheet?? OR, once again, is it just another reason to be cautious on Ebay?? And Hobo, once again, Thanks
Grey Sheet lists dealer-to-dealer wholesale prices. You should expect to pay a premium over Grey Sheet if you are not a dealer. I don't know Barbers that well but some coins command quite a premium over Grey Sheet. eBay may not be your best venue for buying these coins. Have you tried a dealer or a coin show? How about Teletrade?
pa: What you have seen is the norm, for ebay. It is generally not the norm for dealers, unless they are ust trying to screw an unknowing customer. However, the selling price is based upon the dealer's cost and a reasonable markup. As for grade, marks cleaned etc, that is a seller just trying to take advantage of an unknowing customer. I passed on three of the key half dollars this weekend, including a 1915, and all were priced right, at bid or thereabouts. All three looked 'funky' to me, and no one needs another problem coin that will make you happy to fill the space, but make you unhappy when you look at it in a year or two. Keep on looking, even on ebay you may get lucky.
You will have a very difficult time buying nice, problem-free Fine and better Barber Halves at greysheet levels. They often trade that levels for the next grade up.
