what at PR69 Cameo 1961 quarter would worth? I bought it yesterday for $20 and I want to know, did I get a bargain. It is graded by PCI. I was too busy last night to hook up my scanner. Maybe I will today. As always, any help will be appreciated!
Phoenix: The only problen is that it is PCI. But, a Proof 68 (no cameo) is worth $50, Proof 68 Cameo lists at $125. The values list for deep cameos, so a value is anyone's guess. Proof 69 (no cameo) is $100. So, no matter what, it seems to have been a very good purchase.
It depends on the coin itself. The one pitfall I have found with PCI is their lack of determining the true meaning of cameo and deep cameo . I have bought several of their coins and most of the time I would say that their deep cameo gradings are really just cameo (at best ) and their cameo ratings are not cameo at all. Combine this with the perception that there grading is sometimes suspect and your coin could be anywhere between a Proof 67 non-cameo and a proof 68 cameo on average , but the price you paid is still pretty good. IMO.
Thanks. The only thing with it is around the collar there is some black spots like black grit or dust. That might be why ICG didn't grade it PR70? I don't want to take it out of the ICG case but they might just come up with a cue tip or cotton swab. Do you think I should send it to NGC or PCGS to get it regraded and be confident it is PR69? Here are some pictures along with some other coins I got from him. I think I got them for some good prices. I had him take them out of their other cardboard cases to make sure that wasn't toning on them. I lowered him down to a dollar each on them. Did I do well on them? Here are the pics. Sorry they aren't clear pics. The scanner isn't working right so I had to use my camera. It just keeps printing out the pics.
The pictures are really blurry....What I do is take a picture from far away of the coin and then zoom in on my computer....that usually works ok for me....
Okay. I'm going to try that tomorrow. Not feeling too well tonight. Thanks for the suggestion! Anyone know if I should send it to NGC or PCGS and get it regraded?
