Hello. My wife inhereted some jewelry and would like to know where it originated from. I have provided pictures so you can see what it is. It is gold colored, she also got a silver colored one. Any info would be appreciated. Thanks.
Hi Nick, welcome to the forum. The bad news is that putting a coin into a piece of jewelry essentially destroys its numismatic value. The good news is that making it into jewelry did not harm the numismatic value of your token, since it never had any. The double eagle ($20 gold piece) that it slightly resembles was first authorized by a Congressional Act of March 3, 1849 There was no national government in the 13 Colonies in 1776 The "American" eagle hadn't been designed yet (Ben Franklin wanted our national bird to be the turkey ) The pseudo fabric-like surfaces were never used on U.S. coins. If your wife's silver piece is similar, it is also a non-coin.
