Any thoughts on what this is ?

Howdy folks
So I purachased this buffalo nickel, it was earlier this morning I didn't look as close as I should have. At first I thought it was just the shadow in the listing photos , after a better look it appears to be darker areas on both sides of this coin. Around the buffalos tail on the reverse and around the braid/ date on the obverse ...Any thoughts on what this is??

Is this just the coin trying to tone a bit or could it possibly be just the photos ?

 

on the reverse is crud.

 

It could be dirt and it could be lighting. Do you have it in hand?

 

No I had it on my watch list , woke up this morning placed a bid and won . After I got woke up I took another look and noticed these dark areas. I thought the coin looked unc ..

Well you know, the bison wasn't the most sanitary animal..... But a very nice nickel!
