Recently I've been looking for clothing that could express my interest in numismatics and capture the artistry behind the coins in my collection. So I did some looking but I was not able to find much. The few items that I did discover looked like someone glued a paper printout or a coin shaped sticker to a shirt. They seemed very two dimensional, bland, and frankly quite cheap looking (pictured below). So I decided to create my own. With the help of a friend who dabbles in embroidering and screen-printing clothing, we were able to come up with a preliminary design and a rough prototype. Originally this was only supposed to be for my own personal wear, but I was wondering what the wider community thought and I figured ya'll are the perfect people to ask. Currently the only design is the Obverse of the Liberty Nickel (a personal favorite) and we are still trying to dial in the embroidery to capture some more detail, but overall I am fairly proud of the design so far. The goal is to capture the key elements and motifs of the coin without blatantly revealing it as a coin. Any sort of feedback would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!
Make sure you read the rules. Not sure if this is considered advertising/ self promotion Honestly the text looks very rough on the shirt.
Quality of the embroidery needs to improve - letters are mushy and stray jump threads aren't trimmed.
I appreciate the input! Also just to clarify, nothing is for sale here, I do not represent any brand, and I'm simply looking for feedback on a personal project.
Your designs are great! They just scream, "Rob me!" or "Break into my car!". If you've ever been a dealer at a coin show, you would know that their greatest fear is that someone will rob them after they leave the show. Personally, I would never buy one of your shirts. Chris
They are great for a local coin club meeting, but we have 2 off duty federal officers ( armed of course) who sit by the door, but members still worry if they have to park in the lot across the road. There have been several large dealers who have a local guard as they load, but the preps have followed the vehicle for hundred or more miles until it stops for gas or bathroom and then smash and run. Some representatives put their shirts on in the show and take them off before leaving. Just be cautious, Jim
Maybe he could put fine print on the label below the washing instructions..."Caution, this t-shirt may be hazardous to your health." Chris
Makes me thankful I live in a relatively crime free area. Not that I would put a billboard on my truck that I have coins. However I wouldn’t worry about an article of clothing that alluded to an interest in coins....... To the OP, I rather like the V-nickel design. I like understated design elements and I think it is just classy enough to draw interest from a fellow collector. But would be just a random design to one not schooled in numismatics. I for one would wear that shirt.
Wearing the shirt around I have yet to find anyone who can recognize the design except for a fellow collector and a history buff, otherwise nobody knows what a liberty nickel is.
