I agree! If I ever have a wife that acts like that I'll be renaming her "ex-wife" :high5: I know, I know, easy for me to say that being single :p

It's not that hard if you are married. I did it fifteen years ago and been fine with the decision. I agree on a two way street and all that, but it is not like I'm out there throwing money away.

My significant other & I encountered each other About 20 years ago, at work.

Her Boss asked her to try to get me to do some work for him.

Within minutes she had stormed back to her boss insisting that she never have to talk to me again.

So we got married later that year.

My wife is very cool about OUR collection, she was the one that suggested getting some gold coins as a hedge against our investments.

She doesn't go to many of the coin shows anymore, but we do discuss any purchase thats over $100 or so unless it's money that I've stashed and she doesn't really know about it. It's funny when I'm checking out some coins at home and she's like "I didn't know you had any of those - but then again I don't know about half of what you've bought".

We've been married for over 20 years and collecting for 12 or 13 so she's gotten over getting ****ed off at me for small indescretions that don't hinder our day to day lives. So overall she's pretty darn suppotive compared to some of you guys.

My wife is mostly supportive but even though I told her years ago that I bought 3 gold buffalo coins, recently during a money conversation she asked me when I bought them. She implied that I spend 2400 dollars without asking her and I simply said, "Spent?" I said that I still have the coins and they are worth much more than 2400 dollars so "spent" is a pretty relative term. Then I pointed out that all the money she spent on travel, vacations, and holidays is gone and the money I spent on gold coins is not only still in my hands, it has inceased in value. I won this round.

A very supportive one here, and who bought me as a present the most expensive coin I ever got in my life : a 17th century gold ecu. I let you imagine how much she spent on that one...

I guess I have kinda made this interaction between my wife a sport. I enjoy the thrill of trying and get home first from work so I can get my packages. AHH the Adrenaline. Extreame coin shopping- at its best.

    Loving this discussion

Hey boys ... I am loving this discussion. Its like being a fly on the locker room wall. ;) In my house I am the coin buyer and I don't tell my husband how much I spend on coins.

Although a few months ago the husband decided to join the hobby, so now he's gotten a clue as to how much a nice coin will cost.

We both belong to a coin club and when I go to meetings myself, I am spending some bucks on the club auctions. But for some reason when he's there, I just don't enjoy bidding as much and spend a whole lot less.
My behavior reminds me of my mom when I was a kid and we weren't allowed to bring shopping bags into the house if my dad was home -- good thing mom had a big trunk. I also learned that the answer to the question "Is that new?" is "No, I had this for awhile, remember I showed it to you". LOL! Like my dad, my husband doesn't have a great memory!

That's debatable. Frankly just about any coin collection would be preferable. Sorry I just don't like children, and the younger they are the less I like them. Babies are detestable. I currently have to put up with a two year old niece (fortunately not often) who thinks I am fascinating. Unfortunately MOST young children seem to think am fascinating. (The administration at the hospital has noticed that and they keep trying to get me to play Santa Claus at the Christmas party. Good grief the HORRORS of that.)

Wow, I've never heard anyone say they don't like children. I guess it takes all kinds.

I always liked kids, but it changes when they are your own. I'd rather cut off a leg with a chainsaw than to see my daughters hurt. My oldest fell off a slide once, and I was never so panicked in my life, including falling 75 feet from a tree. Without kids, what is the purpose of life? My daughters have given me purpose. My coin collection is worthless compared to my kids.
