Posted before. Here are the bills in Congress: HR4525: introduced June 8 by Rep. Jeff Miller, R-FL; seeks to redesign the half dollar to commemorate Reagan. HR4528: introduced June 9 by Rep. J.D. Hayworth, R-AZ; seeks to redesign the face of the $10 FRN to feature Reagan's portrait. HR4563: introduced June 14 by Rep, Dana Rohrabacher, R-CA; seeks to redesign the face of the $20 FRN to feature Reagan's likeness HR3633: introduced November 21,2003 by Rep. Mark Souder, R-IN; seeks to have Reagan's portrait used on the 10 cent coin. S. 2517, introduced June 14 by Sen. Ben Nighthorse Campbell, R-CO; seeks two commemorative coins, a $1 silver and a $5 gold coin and, at the Tresury's discretion, a $10 ringed bimetallic coin of gold and platinum. (I could live with that) HR3916 Putting ALL of the Presidents on future dollar coins starting in 2006 (similiar to the State Quarter Program) ALONG with the First Ladies on pure gold PREMIUM coins. Haven't gone to the congressional websites and entered in the above legislation, but let us know if you hear anything.
I knew these bills all were before congress, just wondering if anything had moved along. Did you know that there is also a bill before congress to have RWR carved on Mt Rushmore?
I understand that this is a dead issue. It turns out that there isn't enough room to add anything else let alone another portrait to Mt. Rushmore. The only way it "might" have happened would have been to destroy one of the portraits already there.
I'm with you wins, I personally don't want reagan on any currency or coins.... BRING BACK LADY LIBERTY!
Reagan will have a new STAMP 2005, and bills have passed the house banking committee on the $10, $20, and $50. NO action has been taken on the Dime as of this morning. Mr. Castle (R) Delaware and he believes that there are enough votes currently in the House to add Reagan to the Dime as early as 2005. Virginia representatives have made a stand against the Quarter. The Lincoln Cent is safe. NY reps have tried to launch support for keeping Roosevelt, but that action seems to be a lost one. So for now, looks like a $10 and Dime. The Reagan committee has made it public that they would settle for one or the other, but hope for both. Nancy Reagan has issued several statements about issuing a commemorative coin. Now this idea I like. NO bill has been written as of today for a commemorative coin.
I think there should be a commemorative series in 2011, the 100th anniversary of his birth -- but as we're seeing, there's no room for other politicians on coins because no one dares to replace the politicians already on the coins -- unless they were never president. Franklin has already been removed from the half dollar and Hamilton on the $10 is likely to be the next.
