    Hey gang!

I know the toning market is a funny one. I was thinking about sending this coin in. It came out of a brown box looking like this. I'm just wondering if it's worth my time and money to get it certified... are their any toned proof Ike collectors?

There are a few (and believe it or not, I count myself among those), however the coin is only mildly toned and the proof issues come much more attractive. I would not waste your time unless you think it's a 69 (with the obverse spots, I don't see it making that grade, FWIW), and even then the payoff is likely to be low.

I was surely on the fence on this one. Hearing that from you buddy I'll just 2x2 it and stick it in the case. :)

Matt, I disagree. If this makes it into a slab, you will more then get your money back. Toned Ikes of this level are rare and do bring a premium.

If it's slabbed and the toning is not considered artificial, you'll get good money for this coin. I personally think the toning is artificial, but I could be wrong. It's worth a shot at slabbing.

I would never consider this AT. Remember these brown box Ikes had major problems with packaging. I believe half of all I have ever seen have evidence of air entering through the cellophane/plastic/whatever it was. It was not great packaging, so whenever you open one of these up you have no clue what the coin will look like.

That's all I have LD, sorry but I have no idea on value or market for these.

    Chris

Edit: To clarify, for most other coins Fusia I would agree, as the toning is unusual. I just have experience buying these coins from estates and seeing how bad the packaging has been.

This coin came out of the plastic case this morning. I highly doubt it's artificial.

I think we both know because it was in the case, that doesn't mean it's natural. However, it isn't up to us to decide...it's up to the TPG and how that grader feels that day. That's why I said "if" it makes it into a slab, it would fetch a premium. Go for it!

Maybe you should have left it in the plastic and sent it to NGC. They do slab them in the OGP just like the GSA dollars.

I'd bet money it's not. But I don't think they'd slab it, even if they were the ones who took it out of the case.

Nice looking coin, I like the toned coins myself too. But I don't know if collectors will go for it if its not graded. They might be wary its been artificially toned.

Problem is that there are too many of them already graded and many of them with better color than this one. Only way I'd send it is is if it was a ride along with some other coins that would carry it.
