Got a weird email from Stack's Bowers about a personnel change there. Is the copy in the email below just poorly written or did something untoward happen? Seems to me the sender's wording is quite strong by saying "no longer authorized" rather than "he has moved on...." I've redacted names.

    Hello,
This is to inform you that XXXX XXXXXXX is no longer with Stack’s Bowers Galleries and is no longer authorized to conduct any business transactions on behalf of our company.
I have worked closely with XXXX for many years, acquired many coins for him to sell to various clients. My background consists of dated Gold, Silver, Ancients as well as running our trading desk where the daily buy and sell spreads for all of the generic gold are formulated.

Sounds like a possible coup d'etat happened or a bad firing. A jerry maguire situation must be unfolding.

    Very strange.

I wonder if he got caught "skimming". Ah speculation, it makes the world go round....

Staff members come and go, even senior staff. But the bolded part of your post seems to indicate there might, stress might, be some reason they feel the need to inform people. Then again, it may be standard company policy to send out such emails to people who formerly dealt with the particular staff member.

But in this business it is all to easy to unjustly harm a person's reputation with speculation. So my feeling is, (purely as a numismatist) it's best not to do it.

S/he may have been involved with several big transactions and they felt the need to inform the outside parties. It could be a bad departure, it could just be protecting their turf

Thanks for the POVs. I've had some good transactions with Stack's Bowers in the past and hope to continue.
