Hello all. I have had this piece stashed away in a box since I it was given to me when I was a child in the early '80's. I know the pics are the best but I was just hoping to get an idea of what this is and who minted it. I searched online and only found one picture of a piece that had the same obverse as the piece shown here, but it was silver. This is clearly not silver (and by the pic has "bronze" on the side) and no reverse was shown. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Everyday I learn something new from this site! Thanks!
can you take pictures of the sides of the coins straight on? that would help everyone figure out what it is
The following link is to a TradeMe (like eBay but in New Zealand) coin advertised as "1980 GOLD UNITED NATIONS PEACE COIN". There is no photo, but it gives a reference number as REF KM 16, if that helps. http://www.trademe.co.nz/Antiques-collectables/Coins/Exonumia/auction-250916351.htm and a UK eBay listing with the same coin but with a hole at the top: http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Vintage-Bronze-Peace-Medal-United-Nations-1980-/260716577503
Thanks for the listing whstler. It looks like I'll have some research to do. I wonder how long a road I have ahead. LOL
I find many of the UN jetons very attractive. I have one in sterling that I like. Its the 25th aniversary medal with the "Swords into Plowshares" statue on the front. :smile
Cool! It looks like from here and what little research I have done today that I'll have a whole new area to learn about and maybe collect!
It appears to be one of the series of Bronze Peace Medals issued by the Franklin Mint from 1971 through the early 1990's. Probably not worth a whole lot.
