Hello. I've had this thread on the site for days now- I know it would be really hard to find out about this coin based on its condition. Any info will help. I'd really like to find out about a coin I bought recently. The temporary case mentions that it is "Colonial Era 1700's and was Dug from the ground in New Jersey." The coin is so old and worn, that the only thing I can see on the coin is a person on the front (WHICH I LABELED WITH A YELLOW CIRCLE). I can see faint writing on the back. Do you have any information about this coin and maybe a link to image of this coin in good condition so I can see what it looks like. Thanks. Sorry I don't have any better pictures but the coin is in poor condition anyway.
Sorry, I have no idea what it is. Besides even if we couold find out what it is(unless its a unique type) in its condition it would be nearly worthless.
I see the form of the man here (I couldn't make out anything on the other thread) and it is similar to some designs found on Hard Times tokens from the 1830s. Can you make out anything at all on the reverse? Such as is there is pictorial or just wording? I don't know anything about colonials, but if it could not be identified before I would not restrict my search to what someone thought it might be.
The four staplers would probably bring more in scrap value then the coin itself .... Don't feel bad I have some slugs of my own in my possession...
I wouldn't say that! :goof: Some coins (such as a Chain Cent, key dates, etc..) are worth hundreds, just by a hint of detail of what it is, such as this one.
Ok since the coin is not much bigger than the length of the staples I'm under the impression it's about the size of a regular penny right?
It just seems to small to be a large cent, some one let me know if I'm wrong on that. But truth be told, it's to degraded to tell anything from it. Granted they could have found it during a dig of '1700' stuff but in it's condition it's a piece of copper. The most you may get for it is a couple dollars as Large Cents with very little more detail than what you have retail as space fillers for about $5.
I have this coin on a second thread. Someone asked me for the dimensions. It has a diameter of 1 and 1/16th inches and is the same thickness as a penny. If that helps at all. Also, I've realized that the coin isn't worth much and I'm looking more for which coin it is.
