I have a medal/coin, not sure what it is. The inside of the box: Ralph Heaton & Sons, The Mint, Birmingham The one side of the medal/coin: Colonial and Indian Exhibition London 1886 The other side: Albert Edward Prince of Wales Executive President. Does this mean anything to you, or is it worth anything?
It is as stated on it for the Colonial and Indian Exhibition in London of 1886 I would love to see a pic as I collect Royal related medals. not sure what the value would be some are quite expensive while others are quite cheap. Albert would have been the figerhead of the exhibition so to speak much as companies have names on the Board of directors so it looks cool on the letterhead LOL. De Orc :kewl:
The item you mention is a medal. A number of different medals were struck for this event at the Heaton mint in Birmingham and in different metals. I would guess that yours bears the bust of Albert facing the left, minted in copper and engraved by Leonard Charles Wyon (?). If i'm correct, it will also measure 5.2 cm across the diameter. The value of medals is very much dependent upon a numer of factors namely how much the work of the engraver is considered collectable, the quality of the strike of the medal, what condition the medal is in, the event being commemorated, the numer minted in the first place.....and how many collectors of such pieces happen to be awake / showing interest when they appear on the market. Sadly, I can give you no measure of its worth...even if i have guessed correctly as to what medal you actually have in your possession without knowing some of the other factors involved (condition / quality). I can however say that it will attract more with its original case than it would without....and of course do not attempt to clean it in any way shape or form or you will completely destroy any value there may be.
