I was just wondering if any one had any ideas on this medal or coin. It is 1 & 5/16 inches wide. It looks like it might be Egyptian with the pyramids and such. Any help is greatly appreciated.
I'm almost sure its not an official issue. And it certainly isn't ancient. Likely a souvienier piece made for tourists.
Hrm.. Check this site out.. Links @ the bottom of the page for coins. Site I solved one of my world coin mysteries today after googling for your coin. (Picture provided by the site. Mine actually looks nicer.. ) Obv. : Illustration representing the Sphinx. Rev. : A.R.E. + Value in Arabic + Hegira and Gregorian year in Arabic. Chemical Composition : 92 % fine copper + 8 % aluminium. Weight : 2 g. Diameter: 18 mm.
As adratirion says, not official issue, unlikely to have come from Egypt at all. The symbols around the figures on both sides are hieroglyphics.
