I bought a diverse group of Chinese medals, a fantasy (fake) Chinese 'coin' and some other stuff for the grand total of £15. I knew that if real the two Spanish coins were worth a shot but I also know these are faked. Not got them in hand yet so any keen eyed members might be able to tell from the auction house scans. The St Helena coin is also a 'replica' but there was so many pieces I'm sure I won't end up out of pocket in the end. Couple of Chinese medals included in case anyone knows anything....thanks, marbury
sir you have anserwed your own question , Chinese medals, a fantasy (fake) Chinese 'coin'.. where did u get them from exactly???
Misunderstanding I think. What I don't know is if the Spanish coins shown are fake. The medals are real but low value and the St Helena and Chinese fantasy are obviously fake.
where did u get them from exactly??? from what auction?? cause there fake ...look get a acid test kit and see if there real.. im sure u'd be disappoinrtd ... how much u paid??
In my post I said that I don't have them in hand yet so can't comply with your advice. Are you sure the Spanish ones are fake?
As I have not paid yet I may seek to cancel but it was only £15. If it was more i wouldn't have risked it. Once I actually find out how many coins are in the complete lot there may be something of value to at least recoup the paulty sum. Clearly it is not in the Auction House's best interest to foster a reputation for selling fakes. Having said that, I was aware there were some fakes in the lot before bidding.
I would have to agree sadly. 18th and 19th century Spanish are probably the most faked coins in China outside of Chinese coins. I understand your idea of the possibility of them being real would make the lot valuable, but I have never seen an authentic Spanish coin in a lot with Chinese fakes. I have seen better quality Spanish fakes in these lots, but never an authentic piece.
