This is a jefferson nickel with no distinguishable features on the obverse, especially the date and face. Any idea what kind of error this is?

I'm not an expert but it appears to me that the coin would not be classified as an "error coin" but more appropriately coalled a damaged coin. It appears that the coins has been well circulated judging from the pic of the reverse. The obverse appears to me that the coin may had been lodged in some sort of machinery which ground off most of the detail. What is the thickness of the coin at the edges? I'm going to take a shot at this and guess that the coin is bout the normal thickness of a nickel at most of the center portion of the coin then becomes thinner as as it gets nearer the rim...more or less it's shaped like a flattenned dome.
