Hmm...I guess my favorite so far would have to be A Guide Book of Peace Dollars.

This may not be the kind of recommendation you're looking for, but I'm working on a set of Peace dollars and it was a pretty good read.

There are a plethora of books for almost anything having to do with numismatics. The one most people should start with is the redbook as stated above.

OK, here's a book recommendation for the commemorative coin collector......

Encyclopedia of the Commemorative Coins of the United States by Anthony J. Swiatek

This book is a must have for the serious commemorative collector. Mr. Swiatek goes into great detail on the background and history behind each commemorative issue from the classic to the modern and also gives tips on which issues might increase in popularity down the road. The author also discusses counterfeit, doctored and error coins within the series. The book is expensive but the wealth of knowledge that the author shares in this voluminous book (712 pages) makes it an excellent investment as a reference tool.

I'm actually glad I visited this topic. I've been looking for a good book about commemorative coins for awhile now. I think I'll give this book a try. Thanks.

Well I like all coins. What would be a good book for each type. Like a good book for Jefferson nickels, Lincoln cents etc.

I'll give you a list for my favorite series, Capped Bust Half Dollars. If you want a reading book (history, minting techniques, etc.), Bust Half Fever would be a great option and if you want books to attribute you are going to want Early Half Dollar Varieties by Al Overton and RAG (Rapid Attribution Guide) by Glenn Peterson. That would be a great start for CBH. Also, if you would like to learn about Colonials, "In Yankee Doodles Pocket" by Will Nipper is a great read, heck, I've never even owned a colonial, but I love that book. Anyway have fun!
    Thanks
    Jesse
