Here are four pieces I got today when I stopped at a little antique shop. #1. 1902 Canada 5 cents, #2. 1880 Newfoundland 1 Cent, #3. India 1913 1 Anna, and #4. Egypt 1917-1335? Piastres. $25 for the lot.

Im with you. I have long held a fascination with the ancient Egyptian culture. I have allways wanted to track down some of the ancient coins/currency but have as of yet been unable to do so :(

    Daggarjon,
As far as I know, the ancient Egyptians didn't have coins but as soon as the Greeks took over, the Ptolemys to be exact, they minted a lot and if you look around on ancient coin sites, you'll be surprised just how inexpensive they can be,especially bronzes.
Here is on of Cleopatra's great,great,great,great..etc. grandpa, Ptolemy II.Pretty sure I didn't pay more than $25-$30 and you can see the date.I believe the pyramids are about 4500 years old but when this coin was minted, they were less than 2000.

Thats a cool coin. To be honest, i never went any further then the end of my nose to look for Egyptian coins. So i was not even aware as to when they started coining them. It was just something in the back, waaaay back, of my mind to someday do.

i learned something new today, thanks.

    Happycobra,
Actually the first coins,as we know them, meaning pieces of metal with some value, produced by authority of government and regulated, didn't begin until about 650-600 BC
by the Greek States.I don't know what was used prior to that, maybe rocks or shells.LOL
That didn't stop someone from making these:
    Egyptian tourist fake
A fantasy coin. No coin was minted that looked like this, with hieroglyphics on the reverse.
