    Aloha everyone -

I was curious what the general consensus was in the coin collecting community about the reproduction coins produced by Antiquanova. I got a few for as a christmas gift and am in love with them. Why? Well, for starters, I love ancient coins. Not only do I love them because they are old, but I love the process used to make them. Hand-made all the way - from die engraving to hammering hot blobs of silver. The fellow over at antiquanova produces his ancient replicas exactly how the originals were made. It is like traveling back in time an getting a freshly struck coin. They have great videos of coin production on their website. Anyway - I like em. Just curious as to what you all thought and if anyone else had any. My goodies:

Technically, there's nothing wrong with it. Heck, they're even pretty attractive copies. But how long will it take before some bright little Bulgarian says "Hey, if I wear the 'S' off this coin, it'll be worth thousands more!"

Nothing wrong with the coin itself or the artist who made it. Its what happens after its sold that's the problem.

Naw...the Bulgarians just mint up their own in bulk :)

Nothing wrong with them at all IMO. Like you and Ardatirion said, many are very lovely. The problem is when people dont identify them as copies and pass them off as authentic and thats not the honest craftsman who makes a replica but the crook who makes replicas without marking them or the person who removes off that mark.

I just dont buy them as prefer to have the real deal.
