Just picked up this beauty from Leipziger/ Höhn Auction "unsold list" Reuss-Jüngere Linie-Shliez / Grafshaft AV Dukat 1763 Saalfeld Mint Heinrich XII 1744-85 Struck to Commerate the Peace of Hubertsburg in 1763 3.50g. 21.3mm. .986 6h Mintage 485
I must have gotten 300+ coins in past ten years from "unsold lists". recently it calmed down/ since most every high quality coin sell way over estimates However if you scroll thru these lists/ a treasure may appear like the one I snagged yesterday. On mintage stats/ German mintmasters kept very precise figures. They were very well paid and were in a heap of trouble if the mint audits found gold/ silver bullion MIA.
It just shows how inflated US prices are and the fuss over low mintage figures! For American collectors 10K is LOW/ for Europeans that considered mega mintage figures. One Swiss gold Dukat they made 150/ I won that coin in FDC for 1200 euros. Imagine a US Double Eagle with those figures. The recent 1857-S Double Eagle hoard from SS-CA (9500) salvaged/ still these in MS-64 go for 6-8K!
