See attached pics. The reverse is perfectly flat and smooth with the exception of what I perceive to be some odd-looking incusions. The obverse is a helmeted bust facing right, with severly degraded lettering surrounding the head (illegible). It's not in good shape -- chip in patina, surface scrapes, discoloration, test mark -- but the design intrigues me, and i can't find a match. I'm not entirely convinced this coin is Roman, since i don't know of any Romans with incuse reverses.

    Any help for a noob?

    Thanks,

    V.

Could you please post some photos with the details lightened? The pictures are far too dark to be able to make out any discernable details that could provide clues to identification.

You might want to take it with a digital camera and use bright lights.
