Hey gang! Here is another coin I sent in recently and was glad that NGC deemed it proper for grading. These toned coins have been a crap-shoot lately so I was happy to see it come back.
LOL... What a beautiful Buffalo. I do think it was just a little overgraded though. It has a weak strike on the reverse but the eye appeal is amazing! Grabbed the image from the photo grade site as a ms-65 to show what I mean.
I do agree that it probably got a bump for eye appeal... I'm just happy it didn't come back AT! haha!
If NGC would have given that beauty an AT slap on it, I would think they are drinking while grading coins. Where is it going next Matt? Your store?
I am a bit surprised it graded but not because I feel it's AT...I just agree with you about how tight NGC has been lately.
While this coin has that " WOW " effect, I can't agree with the overall grade. Just more proof that it really is a " Crap shoot " when submitting coins to the top two TPG's these days. What were they thinking when they reviewed the reverse of this coin ?
I agree with the rest, probably a 64 due to strike but given a nudge due to eye appeal and color. But aren't all things taken into account with MS grades: color, luster, hits, strike, and eye appeal.
In this coin's defense the dies do look to be heavily worn. This is most likely the culprit for the flatness on the shoulder.
I certainly agree on the star designation; looks to be nice, heavy, natural toning. I also agree that the dies look heavily worn. At a glance, the grade looks OK, but then they don't pay me to grade.
The chief is taking a sun bath. Love the look of the tone on his cheek and the 3-9 oclock on both obverse/reverse. This pretty much blows most of my coins out of the water.
