    Hi everyone,

I just picked up this shekel on vcoins. It looks good to me and I've done business with this dealer before with complete satisfaction. The only thing that concerns me is the weight. I looked at other examples and found others in the same weight range that were being sold by reputable dealers, but I thought I'd see what the rest of you thought. Any comments?

    Thanks,

One thing I noticed was the edge at the upper rear portion of the head of Melkart. It almost looks like it has a little silver missing from the edge. The edge at what I think is the same area on the reverse is pretty ragged, so that and the wear and pitting seem to account for the weight, which is about 10% low.

Seems close enough to me to not raise suspicion.
I like the coin, the pitting on this one isn't the type I'd avoid.

Thanks Evan. I don't have a lot of experience with this series, so I wanted to see what some of the other collectors on her had to say. So far I only have two shekels, including this one, and a half shekel. I'll post pics of the three of them together when the new one arrives.
