I am still struggling to identify these things. This emperor's name is beyond me. It could be DN-HR?K or HA?R. For awhile I thought HADR-ian (The "D" is distorted by some crusty stuff) but the style of the coin looks nothing like the Hadrians posted online. The reverse has little detail. May I ask for some opinions on who this might portray?
gona go out on a limb, its a bit hard for me to see it but maybe Arcadius AE4. D N ARCADIVS P F AVG, pearl diademed, draped, cuirassed bust right, star behind bust / DN ARCA ROMANORVM, Three emperors standing facing. The two outermost are taller, holding spears, and resting hand on shield, turning towards each other. The innermost figure is smaller, holds spear, head turned right. Cyzicus RIC 148
My goodness. Second time I've been stumped by Arcadius. I figure there's a good chance you got it. I think this game takes a bit of practice and lateral thinking. Fun, though.
I have a few late roman bronze I cant I.D. mself cant manage to get a clear photo of em. They seem, to me, a bit tougher to i.d.
One thing to keep in mind is that in later Roman coins like this, they often left the top of the A open so that it looks like an H. Knowing that should make your life a tad easier with these. In case you haven't been shown it already, this site is an excellent tool for identifying 4th and 5th century Romans, which make up most of the cheap stuff and uncleaned coins.
Great resource I've been at this for months now and had never encountered that wonderful site. Thanks for the tip.
