Maybe I will have better luck with this one (my last coin appears to be a fake). Can anyone tell if this is a real or fake panda coin? Thank you.
Sad to say, this one is fake, too. It mates the obverse of a 2000 coin with the reverse of a 2001/2 Panda. Additionally a 50 Yuan coin would have 5 oz. of silver in it, not one. To add insult to injury, it is almost certainly not silver at all except for the plating. Best wishes, Peter Anthony http://www.pandacollector.com
I've posted photos and comments that compare these coins to genuine Pandas at http://www.pandacollector.com/rogue.html My thanks to JustAsking for loaning me the counterfeit coins. Best wishes, Peter Anthony http://www.pandacollector.com
2000 does not have that "type" of panda image. Its one of a panda sitting upright with a bamboo branch in "paw"
Here's a picture of the reverse side of a genuine 2000 Panda, a very pretty coin. Almost the exact same design is used for both silver and gold Panda coins of the year. The largest are 1 kilo and were struck in two versions, gold and silver. The smallest is a 1/20 oz. gold coin. Best wishes, Peter Anthony http://www.pandacollector.com
In addition, 1 oz Silver Panda has a face value of 10 Yuan. And there is no 5 oz Silver Panda issued for Year 2000.
