I just noticed this 'nice' example of a Nero sestertius, but something seems 'off' to me... Any comments would be appreciated.
I give up. What is wrong with it? The proportions almost make me think it is an as but you say it is a sestertius and the metal looks yellow. It is hard to tell from photos. Mine is another low grade Nero sestertius but with smaller devices in proportion to the larger flan.
It looks ok to me too, but the seller later id'ed it as a composition: Silver and a sestertius (33 mm). He also contacted me and acknowledged the 'silver' error but restates it is a sestertius.... and then I started to wonder and I guess I started to see things that aren't there and the auction is about to end...with bids rising to a higher retail level than I expected...or am willing to pay. Thanks for the comments guys!!
If it is an as, someone will pay way too much and either be cheated or not know better. Nero sestertii are large enough that there should be no question as to which it is. I'd say this might be a good one to let someone else have.
