Hi Lotsofcoppers ! I must confess that is the first time in my life to see something like that.. The reverse seems to have a kind of indian or southern east asia flavour but i feel sorry not to be able to help you with this one ! Maybe kind of token but so small in dimension, it's really strange !
they are plenty of ancient coins without any date that could be hardly considered as tokens but this one doesn't look so ancient, it only looks so weird ...
It's a crude imitation of a Mexican cuartillo, or 1/4 real, which were made from the 1840's to 1860's. Here is one: http://www.ebay.com/itm/Mexico-Silver-1-4-Real-F-F-Un-Quarto-Una-Quartilla-1842-Zs-KM-368-5-/390456915246?pt=US_World_Coins&hash=item5ae90bb52e&nma=true&si=mXgqfUhCpDyA7kOsPP%2BGhiIrw4k%3D&orig_cvip=true&rt=nc&_trksid=p2047675.l2557
Congratulations ! As a matter of fact, we can imagine something like the 1 and a something 4 on the reverse How did you proceed to get the ID ?
I have a couple of these coins and the design on this one reminded me of them. No fancy detective work or anything like that. =)
Fantastic! Thank you very much! And thanks everyone for their efforts. I collect old / contemporary counterfeits so I'm liking this
