Fellow members, please let me know what you this of this coin. Smart members would notice that this is NGC graded. If you like you can take a stab at the grade too!
There is a nice die-clash on the reverse too which does not appear in my not-to-the-mark pictures. More than guessing the grade I would like members to let me know their honest opinions on the coin.
The pics still arent that great but I understand its hard to take pictures of coins. It looks like wear on the obverse!
we need better pics to take a stab at how NGC graded it but NGC or PCGS are not experts at grading indian coins and their grades are off a lot of times. I cant specifically tell more about your coin as the pics are not clear but i can tell you about the series. Its a 1962 bombay mint and i am surprised to see it slabbed but i am not complaining these are usually available in the indian coin market
Good morning! I am yet again disappointed by the response from the Indian experts, only a couple responded. However spock1k, this coin is possibly unique and it is not commonly found in the Indian markets. :secret: Please look at the same carefully. As the rest said it is definitely circulated grade given is AU58. I thought it was a marginal candidate to be body-bagged as you thought but it made it.
you have to listen to the experts people dont waste words here. Indian coins were made in india so at one time it was part of indian market. Its not magic its logic and if you still dont get it, its going to be tragic but not unique. I have looked at the coin and no disrespect as i said earlier its is not the quarter anna of Lahore from 42 to be called unique. cheers
Gotcha! You again missed the hint! :hammer: This coin is not Br or Ni-Br but Ni or Cu-Ni. That is why I called this near unique (there might be other pieces out there but only one known as of now). There were no known planchets of this metal for a comparable size and this might well be a pattern coin. We would never know the intention-- experimental pattern or whatever. All I can say is that I like it and wanted to share with fellow forum members. If you guys do not like this sort of stuff then won't post it.
you still have a lot to learn the coin is NOT unique take a walk in the fort area of bombay and buy. OMS coins produced at indian mints are not restricted to one off pieces. sorry didnt want to burst your bubble but i have to make sure that the wrong message does not go out to the YN on the forum.
Can you please post pictures of another such piece? I put money where my mouth is and can offer a bounty of a 100 bucks if you can source a similar coin. Anyone living in Mumbai can take up this offer and come up with the coin in the Fort area! The bounty is for the first person to get it and post it here. Any Mumbai folks out there??? I do not deny that the modern (1990's onwards) OMS's are being mass produced but very few from this (1950's-60's) era have come to light. Also please note I said "possible unique". I have yet to see any other piece in all my collecting years and so made this statement.
As i said earlier you need to look at catalogs whch have these for sale. just becoz u have not seen something doesnt make it unique. u still havent answered my question have u seen a 1942 L 1/4th anna? Have you seen a copper or a silver mohur? if u havent does it mean it doesnt exist. people go their entire life without seeing a lot of coins. you will get a better response from people if you just put your coins up instead of making tall claims about their value and scarcity and then using medieval tricks of offering bounties.
Good morning! All I have been saying that I have not encountered this type of coin in auction catalogs and dealer inventory/pricelists. You have made a lot of loose statements and I am just asking you to back them up for the benefit of YN's of the forum. I believe these are wrong and no one should get a wrong impression. Statements like "new British India coin dies being made after independence" is plain incorrect. I am just asking for the page number where it is and would issue a public apology to you if you can furnish it. Also the statement regarding 1950's-60's coins available like dirt in Bombay-- incorrect. Being a respected member should not make loose comments like these. If you can back these up then I would apologize and gift you a nice coin. Cheers!
