Had this for a few months now. Many here know a Maesa Ant. was high on my want list. Finally settled on one that was priced perfectly for me. Maesa ants are scarce compared to denarii. Could have been added to my top 10, but didn't. Julia Maesa (218 - 225 A.D.) AR Antoninianus O: IVLIA MAESA AVG, Draped bust right, wearing stephane and set on crescent. R: PIETAS AVG, Pietas standing facing, head left, extending hand and holding acerrum; lighted and garlanded altar to lower left. Rome Mint 23mm 4.58g RIC IV(part 2), pg 50, #264 (Elagabalus).
That's a terrific portrait and reverse!! Congrats Mat!!! Mine has her looking a bit stern (and mean LOL) and with Pudicitia seated.
Nice Maesa @Mat ! great snare... and I KNOW it was at the best price! I only have one from her: RI Julia Maesa AR Denarius Pudicitia 3.1g 19mm Sear 2183 Ex: @ancientcoinguru
Sweet pickup. I have the same old standard borring denarius of her that everyone else seems to have, except everyone else's is nicer than mine...LOL.
I've had the sitting Pudicitia several times since I started ancients. Still nice examples, everyone.
