Today I went strap searching as usual. What wasn't usual was the ending results along with an interesting story. Okay, so I went to a local bank I usually don't go to that often. It's a Wells Fargo. I asked for $500 in singles and the teller informed me that she would have to go buy them from the volt. First, she checked and saw that she had $200 in used singles and she said that she would have to go buy the rest. She came back with $500 in consecutive singles. You can bet that I wasn't too pleased with that after I had been waiting there for a while for her to go buy them from the volt. When she brought them out, this is what I saw: I immediately informed her that I would be interested in switching out those new stacks for used ones. So she went to turn them right side up to switch them out, and my eye just so happened to catch something in a seconds worth of looking at them: After seeing that for 2 seconds, best believe I changed my mind on the teller with the quickness. I could tell she thought I was little weird/psycho for caring what kind of one dollar bills I get and why I was so quick to change my mind on her, lol. Here are my finsihing results: Something similar to this has happened me in the past with a brand new stack of $10 dollar bills. edited -tbud
Hahaha, today I went to a Wells Fargo and specifically asked for brand new singles when exchanging a box of nickels I went through. The teller didn't have any so I took a $100 bill and left. I never turn down new singles when offered as there could be unseen errors or notes with cool serial numbers like you found today. There are times when new singles are very difficult to come by, sometimes I can go through an average of 10,000 singles before being given new ones' so they can be an uncommon treat indeed.
CHCU 2009 $1 FC block trinaries. Trinaries are serial numbers that consist of 3 specific numeral digits. You'll notice that all of the scans notes only have 3 digits throughout the entire serial number. -tbud
Oh my, the unthinkable just happened!!!! There was a 2009 $1 G* GEMCHCU mixed in with one of the FC straps!!! Don't ask me how or why but I'm phyched!!! 640k run, too! This would be my second one from that run, but the other is XF. This is weird too because I normally don't even go thru these new straps. The only reason why I decided to go thru this strap is because I wasn't sure which straps I took out of so I decided to count them all before going to the bank! Man, I have good luck with new notes. I still can't figure out how something like that go in there!!! It was in like the middle, too. I'm no longer going to doubt brand new notes so much!!! -tbud
Check it out Travis, this is a first for me. I just got this from my local bank, singles printed in DC with a BEP strap from the "Eastern Currency Facility". Until today every new strap I've bought in California has been from Fort Worth in Texas so this is an uncommon find indeed.
Wow, I have no idea what you guys are talking about, but if it's that exciting I need to check it out. I'm guessing because of all of the 0's only 3 digits were used in the entire serial number? I have banknotes from all over the world, and plan on making a youtube video edited
I've only seen a few DC '09 $1's so far out of all of the $1's I've seen. They were the first run of '09 Boston AA's and they were used radom notes. Are you going to keep a note or 2 out of that strap? These would be the first BD's I've seen yet though. It seems like the SF FRB prints enough, why in the world do we need to also have Cleveland, Atlanta, NY, etc? -tbud
I'm not really planning on keeping any of them. I got some new 2009 G-Bs a while back that I haven't spent yet and I plan to keep a few from those as a series example. The rules were changed in the late 80s that notes no longer had to be shipped to the FRB from which they were printed for. Numbers could better explain this and why we find straps from different districts better than I can, hopefully he will see this thread and contribute. What I am curious about is why new straps of notes printed in DC would make it all the way across the country? It's like finding new rolls of P mint coins at the bank (hasn't happened, lol) considering Denver is alot closer than Philadelphia. I had quite a day today with $1 bill finds. Aside from the new notes printed at DC, I went through 1,000 used singles from several different sources and this is what I found: 1969A K-B My first ever 1969A from circulation! Three unrelated 1981s- A-C, C-A and D-C This is quite something considering I've only found 5 1981 series for the whole year and they're all from L district. 1985 J-A 1993 L-J This is a long sought after block for me, usually I find L-Es, L-Is etc. so this is a nice find indeed! 1995 D-E, E-J, H-D, I-H, J-S, K-K (uncommon bookend) L-P and L-W 1999- A-E, B-K, B-M, B-P, L-E, L-I and L-J No stars but that's ok, overall I am quite happy with today's finds.
Like you said, the BEP no longer worries about shipping newly printed currency to the "correct" FRB. So if you're in the western half of the country, you'll usually get whatever $1's Fort Worth has been printing lately, even if they're not labelled for your home FRB district. Typically FW prints $1's for the western districts and DC for the eastern districts, so in California you might see K's or H's, but you won't usually see A's or C's. But the BEP's schedule has been weird lately what with DC devoting so much of its time to the Kodachrome $100's and then the 2006A $100's. For over a year (June '09 - August '10) FW was handling *all* production of $1's, which meant that any area of the country might well receive $1's on any district. That got everyone good and mixed up.... More recently, DC has started printing $1's again, but the distribution pipeline is still probably pretty scrambled. I'm not sure how DC-printed $1's end up in California as a result of all of that. Maybe FW ran a bit behind on a shipment, so some extra $1's had to be moved from another FRB, and they happened to be DC printings. As long as FW keeps on printing $1's, the west coast will probably get its $1's preferentially from FW; I'm guessing your DC $1's are just a quirk, not a trend.
