It's very interesting that 90% of the gold toned Morgans I come across are minted in New Orleans. Here is an 1894 that I came across and purchased. Anyone else experience this phenomonon, or am I just a freak ?
when i studied the dvd on at vs nt by robert cambell, he said that he could often tell how the coins were stored as well as what part of the country they were stored for a length of time. clues were toning styles and environmental conditions. i don't have that experience but others may have clues for you. thank you so much for sharing your pics! nice coin!...steve
I have all of the New Orleans minted Morgans, and I can't say I've seen any more of them golden-toned more than any others. None of my O's are toned golden, although I do like the look...at least of the one posted here. I do have one with partial violet toning. I agree with srkjkd in that it's probably how and where they were stored. Great coloring on your Morgan anyhow. Guy~
I knew I set myself up. Thanks to everyone for your comments, even Dag. That is very interesting about the info from the DVD. One of these days, I'll have to get around to buying that one. I'd love to see a pic of that violet toning, Guy. Here's another gold Morgan that I posted a while back.
