I also have a 2006 P nickel that has what looks like it would be a sticky residue on it. Almost like a peice of tape or sticker was place on it. But it doesnt feel any different than the rest of the coin just looks different. When you tilt it in the light it looks like "sun beams". And half of the U, the whole S , and half of the T in the word trust look worn and faded when the rest of the letters are normal. I cant take a pic if it because I dont have a good camera. thanks for reading and any input
Hard to tell. It could be a number of things. Laminations, strike through, damage, etc. Sorry I can't be of much help. Phoenix
Chances are that is exactly what happened. After tape is removed further wear can rub off all the stickiness, but the discoloration will remain. A coin which has been dipped in acetone to remove sticky tape will often have the exact appearance you describe if the tape had been on it very long. That sounds like it was struck with a partially grease-filled die. Most people don't consider those to be errors, and they almost never add any premium value to the coin unless they are spectacular and peddled on Ebay with lots of hype to gullible people.
