I was just wondering, does anybody know what the Presidential dollar coins are goign to look like? I mean, obviouly the side with the President is going to be different for each coin, but aren't they going to have a common side?

I've heard several different proposals. One was to have something significant about the president (Log cabin for Lincoln, Declaration of Independence for Jefferson, etc) and the other story was that they would have the Presidential Seal, like on the reverse of the Kennedy half.

Until a final bill is passed by both houses and signed by the President, nothing is certain. Once that occurs, the mint will follow its usual procedure for establishing designs. Except for specific requirements of the law, the mint will use its own "artistic judgment" and knowledge of coining technique to decide on final designs, metals, and strength of relief.

Based on recent evidence, they will botch the job royally.

Ok, thanks for the replies. :) I would like to see a symbol of America on there, such as an eagle, or the Statue of Liberty. I wouldnt like to see something different for every coin in the series.

Wouldn't mind having a different reverse design for each president... but for some of them it would be hard to come up with something significant about their presidency, lol, especially William Harry Harrison... what are they going to show, him lying in bed with pneumonia? That's about all he did during his 30 day presidency before he died.

May be better to just stick to a uniform reverse for everyone, since they're be a lot of debate for some about what was their most significant accomplishment, if any. Plus would get a bit too "politcal" when they reach the presidents still in living people's memories.

I think a good standby would be some form of an eagle, or perhaps the Statue of Liberty, or both maybe, if the design wouldn't be too crowded.

But I trust the mint's judgement... only major screwups that stick in my mind during their history is the 20 cent peice and SBA dollar, lol.

Its all in the bill. I have even seen ARTIST'S CONCEPTION pictures of the design.

    REQUIREMENTS.--The $1 coins

12 issued in accordance with paragraph (1)(A) shall
13 meet the following design requirements:
    14 ``(A) COIN REVERSE.--The design on the

    15 reverse shall bear--
16 ``(i) a likeness of the Statue of Lib-
17 erty extending to the rim of the coin and
18 large enough to provide a dramatic rep-
19 resentation of Liberty while not being large
20 enough to create the impression of a `2-
    21 headed' coin;
    22 ``(ii) the inscription `$1' ; and
    23 ``(iii) the inscription `United States of
    24 America'.

And since the coin will have the Statue of Liberty on it they decided that e no longer need to have our coins come out and proclaim LIBERTY so it is being removed form the coin.

I don't like the obverse design. If we are not "deifying" the presidents, why are we looking up at them from below?

And what's with all the stars? I can understand having 13 stars for the original 13 states, that was standard symbologly on our coins for ages, but why the 17 stars on the reverse? This coin has 30 stars on it.
