I managed to snag TWO small bronze coins of Marcian today. He issued only two basic coin types, the gold aureus and these 12-13mm bronzes which featured his MAR monogram on the reverse. They are 5th century and somewhat hard to find so I was happy to pick these up.
Marcian was a brave soul, being the guy who stopped paying tribute money to Atilla the Hun and actually got away with it.Rome was sacked by the Vandals in 455 but Constantinople was left alone.

So much history associated with coins, I love it. As you said coins from the 5th century are very scarce and you have two fines examples. Great eye and a wonderful find :)
