Hey cointalk, I know that I CANNOT afford the 6grands for it, but I simply love this Matte Lincoln! I have to say, I do not like the fingerprint on the obverse, but Lincoln's facial expressions? I love it! It seems as though Lincoln is "smiling" on this cent. http://www.ebay.com/itm/1912-1c-PCG...d=100009&prg=1088&rk=1&rkt=5&sd=121146065881& Nowadays' Lincoln cents ( because the portrait was modified over the years) you can't really see that smile,
I would run like heck away from that coin, based upon its images, and would tell my clients to do the same. Please note that I adore matte proof coinage, but it has to be nice.
For that money, you can find a matte proof Lincoln that is much much more attractive. I would pass as well.
I would stay away from that one also. This one grades 66 RB NOT Red but is much more pleasing to look at.
I'd have a hard time spending 6 grand on anything on ebay, let alone a coin someone held improperly and has the proof to show it.
That may be the reason, the fingerprint, why it grades none higher plus the spots on the reverse. On the coin I mentioned.
You can buy many very nice matte proof pieces for significantly less than the coin linked in the first post. These coins were not made in great numbers, but they are not rare, either.
