Yesterday, I posted my newly acquired 1921 MS 65, that I purchased for $150.00, which was less than the gouged prices on the 2021 Pseudo Morgans. Today, I post my 1921 Morgan that I have owned for a bit—MS 64, in an OGH. I would take these over the new issues, any day.
Very pretty. Those are very clean and lovely coins. Morgan's are my favorite coin...but I just don't like the look of the 1921s. I think they ruined the design when the redid it. It just doesn't look as good as the 1904 or older.
I agree completely, Richie. The design definitely suffered in the re-design. What bothers me most is the extremely low relief devices. They look poorly struck, even when the coin is well struck. I also find that 1921 coins that are under MS 64 are generally weak in luster. It definitely was not a flattering redo—almost as bad as those 2021 pseudo-Morgans. I prefer Daniel Carr’s fantasy restrikes to the 2021 US Mint issues.
I'm really curious to see one of the 2021 coins in person (not sure when that will happen as I don't plan on buying any). I want to see how flat they look.
Lower mintage than Philadelphia. Although, the OGH Philly one is quite undergraded by today’s standards.
Beautiful coins. I have a grand total of ONE 1921 Morgan, and I wouldn't swap it for any of the characterless new issues.
Every time I see a 1921...it makes me think of collecting as a kid. I remember being told how different the 1921 coins were when compared to the 1878-1904 coins and I just couldn't see it...I guess my attention to detail was lacking. The one day...it was so obvious. Now, the 1921s look so different to me.
This is my 21-D MS-65 currently at NGC getting a new slab. That's a die polish area around the wing on the right side, like a PL patch.
I have a grand total of one Morgan, a 1921-S. Nothing special except my grandfather gave it to me in 1972. Happy anniversary big guy, and next year I'll have had it for 50 years.
