I was wondering if anyone knows where I can find the Annual Report of the Director of the Mint for FY1973. I am looking for this page, but it should say "Coinage in 1973" I can't find the U.S. Mint's annual report for coinage in 1973 anywhere. Not in Newman Numismatic Portal, either.
I believe you can find the '73 Mint Director's report here (trusted/secure/verified link): https://babel.hathitrust.org/cgi/pt?id=osu.32435057210866&view=1up&seq=1 This site has all of them, I believe, from 1872 - present. https://catalog.hathitrust.org/Record/007822982
Indeed, but that shows the same data @mlov43 posted. I'm guessing the report at this link may contain what he's looking for (1973/74), but I don't see any information about coins being struck for Korea...? Ah, here it is, but it doesn't break things down by coin type. So, it looks like maybe the Mint simply didn't report that detailed information for 1973?
Teamwork makes the dream work...I have been checking out these reports myself because of your post - very informative! Good luck. Cheers.
Thanks to you (@AmishJedi and @-jeffB ) I just found information today in the Korea listings in these Annual Reports that I hadn't noticed before; information that exists nowhere else that I've seen. Cheers to you!
And all I did was poke around a little bit in the neighborhood of @AmishJedi's link. I have this overwhelming urge to call in sick to work and just spend a day reading Mint Director reports...
The problem you have reading Mint reports is they are based on the Mint Fiscal year, not the calendar year. So the 1974 report came out in 1975 and covers the period from July 1, 1973 to June 30, 1974. so that "1973" Korean coin production may include last half year of 1973 and the first half year of 1974 dated coinage.
Yes, I've noticed. However, the mintages cited clearly indicate "Coinage in 1973" and the Mint Director's foreign mintage numbers for South Korea in any given year are a 1-1 match with official South Korean Mint sources that I have. When production runs of coins marked with a certain date extend into the following year, the Mint Director cites that, actually! That was the surprising info I learned from reading a couple of these listings.
