I have been thinking of this movie clip: "There can be only one":

I picked this one up at the last Roma Auction and now I need just one to fill in my MA Legionary shadow box. This may be my most expensive coin in my collection, but it is rather rare. There were only 6 found in the Delos Hoard of 1905 and this one is in excellent condition.

OBVERSE: ANT AVG III VIR R P C, Praetorian galley, thyrsos behind prow
REVERSE: CHORTIVM PRAETORIARVM, aquila right between two signa

The praetorian cohorts took their name from the praetorium, or tent, of the commander. These elite troops went on campaign as the personal accompaniment of their generals (Marc Antony likely had four or more praetorian cohorts with him at Actium). Augustus drew from these cohorts to form the Praetorian Guard, a unit that would come to posses tremendous political power.

Now all I need is Legio IIII to complete my set.

I have no idea what all this means but I like the coin. Best wishes on getting that last coin to complete your set.

Yesss!!! One of my favorites from my youth! And the score was done by QUEEN...

And to keep it legit, or should I say keep it legio, here's my 2 (though the top one had a pretty cool bankers mark 100) CollageMaker Plus_201845215014112.png CollageMaker Plus_201845214922351.png unreadable MA

So, which legionary denarius is the last remaining one?

The most notable exercise of their political power came when they raised Claudius to emperor following the assassination of his nephew Caligula.

I'd love to see a virtual tray of your denarii, with a space for the remaining one!

Congrats! Big accomplishment and it's nicer than mine.

I've actually owned two of the very rare LEG IIII, this is the one I kept

    VERY RARE

This type with LEG IIII rather than LEG IV is quite rare. No examples were found in the Delos Hoard of 1905. Missing from RBW collection.
Only 3 examples ever offered by CNG.

    And yet so far!
I have all my coins in a safe deposit box since I am leaving for Europe in just a week and a half, so this will have to wait till I return.
I can do this with the images on my computer, but it will take some time. Some of my MA Legionary denarii are not well preserved and you may be disappointed. My goals as regard this set is to complete it first, then look for upgrades. All of mine have a readable legion number or identification, my number one requirement.

Thanks everyone for your comments and support.

    Wow, congratulations Bing!

You have really kept at it assembling this set.

I don't think I have ever heard of another full set being put together.

Good luck with the final one.
