=> however, I couldn't resist a 22 mm coin, 900 years old and packed full of lion-filled awesomeness!!

I am actually a big fan of this era of coinage between Byzantine and 'Modern'. They are neat coins. I don't have any yet but I do have a couple of 16th century coins

Ummm, maybe I should have named this medieval? ... when did we "kinda" decide that the ancient/medieval boundary was again?

Geesh, I guess I have another coin from Japan that is about 50 years older ...

=> ummm, but it's actually fairly similar, eh?

Dang!! ... oh well ... it was only $70, so it isn't a complete catastrophe!!

Honestly, I really like both of these coins!! (900 years old, silver, lions and super-cool)

that's a great lookin coin....a quadalion! one of the complications of my recent bout of byzantine fever was a creeping itch for armenian coins from this era. i'll have to get some ointment of that itch since i'm on coin hold.....

    stupid coin hold.:(

Very nice catch steve. Been kinda wanting an Armenian coin from this part of the middle ages, which coin-wise for me, starts in 491 AD, with the ascension of Anastasius as Byzantine emperor, since he is the first emperor to have his rule start during the middle ages and after 476 AD (that year being the official end of the ancient era and the start of the early middle ages. Euro-centric I know, but I can't help it and I like it that way).

And since you like lions ;) (what animal don't you like?!?!) , here is my Eastern Roman emperor Leo I coin, with a lion on the reverse (Leo is Latin for lion btw):

Sweet lookin' lil coin, Jango!! (thanks for sharing)

I myself am a Leo, so I am well aware of the ol' Lion association ...

    ;)

Oh, and thanks for your take on the "boundary" between the eras!!

Hey chrsmat71 => I am very sorry to hear about your recent illness (good health is definitely under-rated!!) ... oh, and although I'm not an official medical doctor, I do happen to have a fool-proof remedy for what ails ya ...

=> drink lots of liquids, get plenty of rest and then make reckless coin purchases (it always makes me feel better)

    ;)
