Yah, I am trying my best to stay on the straight-n-narrow ... but man, there are soooo many cool lanes that drift-off to the left and the right, eh? ...

=> hey, I just happened to take a stroll on a path that led me to this nasty ol' Alexandrian A-Pius (man, I seem to be drawn to this dude's coinage!!) ... he rocks!!

    ... anyway ...

Despite my awesome wife's wishes/knowing, I splurged and bought myself (us) this kinda sweet Alexandrian drachm ...

    ANTONINUS PIUS, Alexandria, Bronze Drachm
    138-161 AD
    Egypt, Alexandria, year 8, (144-145AD)
    Diameter: 33mm
    Weight: 23.15 grams
Obverse: Laureate bust of Antoninus Pius facing right
Reverse: Serapis wearing the modius between the Dioscuri, LH in exergue
    Other: Rare

Antoninus Pius Alexandrian Three Peeps a.jpg Antoninus Pius Alexandrian Three Peeps b.jpg

... ummmm, by the way, I could only find "1" other example of this cool coin-type ....

=> "please" send me any other info that you guys find on this coin ... okay?

    Thanks, my super-cool-coin-gentlemen (and lady)

Nice! A-Pi really does have the coolest bronzes. I love this one's Serapis and the Dioscuri strutting down the runway reverse. That's some serious fashion posing they're doing!

I love those big ol' Alexandrian drachms. Despite the wear it's a fabulous coin. Very cool pickup, my friend!

Edited to add the Emmett number: 1670(8), R3.

Hey, Princess => what does "R3" mean to the common-man?

... Ummm, or more specifically => dah, wha?

    Thanks (I like you)

It's his rarity rating, R1= most common, R5 = most rare. Take it with a large grain of salt. Some coins, especially of the earlier emperors might rate R1 or R2 but good luck finding one for sale.

Conversely, I'm seeing a fair number of dichalkons for sale yet often the rarity ratings are 4 or 5. His data is drawn from published collections. Maybe those collectors/museums just didn't find those worthy of acquiring.

=> hey TIF, do you happen to have any links to this coin-type?

Hmmm? ... well, it's an R5 until proven differently (I didn't find a single example on wildwinds or CNG archives) ... curious, eh?

    Thanks again (you rock)

    ;)

Nice, when I saw the reverse I thought it was a coin I had been searching for myself, which depicts the Three Graces. Maybe this is another coin with them on it?

If the wife asks, tell her it must have been a mistake. Someone bought it under your account but it wasn't you.

Hi, icerain ... yah, it does look pretty similar, eh? (oh, and I "love" those Three Graces examples ... very cool) ..

Hmmm yah, but I'm pretty sure that these images are "comin' atcha" rather than walkin' away like the Three Graces (but I really do suck at this "stuff" ... for all I know the Three Graces are comin' at us as well?)

... man, I should stick to animals!!

Hmmmm? ... I just went and found a bunch of paintings of the The Three Graces, but I'm still confused which direction they're supposed to be facing!!?

    ... you choose ...

Yah, bottom-line ... I think that my coin is "not" the sweet "Three Graces"

.. my cool new coin is what it is ... *awesome* ...

=> it's "Serapis wearing the modius between the Dioscuri"

There is one I see on MA-Shops. The left and the center grace are facing right and the right one is facing left.

btw. I really want to get the coin, but I will have to save up for it as its rather pricey.
