Ummm, by the way => for you dudes wondering which rulers fit into the Romano-Gallic Emperor category, you should really buy ERIC-II ... just jokes ... I can at least tell you a few of 'em that I have ... Postumus, Victorianus and Allectus ...
Super-sweet pick-up @stevex6 !!! Or should I say that in the plural??? LOVE those reverses!!! My Marius is a bit like Pish's cool coin and I'll throw in two of Victorinus to account for my unphotographed Allectus plus one Postumus With the Mars 'droopy drawers' reverse:
Good lookin' coin for the era. Glad you are back into buying lately. I haven't looked at any for sale/auction in five or six weeks. I know if I look, I will want to buy and, at the moment, I have some pressing priorities. I'm making my list from coins like this that I see posted here. Love ya little brother.
From wiki According to the ancient written sources, Marius’ reign lasted for two or three days only, before being killed by a sword of his own manufacture.[9] This tradition is probably partially or entirely incorrect. Based upon the number of coins he issued, a more accurate length for his reign would be at least two or three months.[
Mechanic? I thought he was a plumber! Nice coin, Steve-O. Funny handshake though-- secret Gallic emperor handshake? I have no handshake coins I do have this nifty Postumus though Postumus CE 260-269 antoninianus, 20 x 22 mm, 3.0 gm struck CE 263 in Cologne Obv: IMP C POSTVMVS P F AVG, radiate, draped, and cuirassed bust right Rev: PROVIDENTIA AVG, Providentia standing left, leaning on a column, holding a scepter in her right hand and a cornucopiae in her left; at her feet to left, globe Ref: RIC VII 81, Cologne; AGK (corr.) 70. Cunetio -. Elmer 334. Gilljam -. Very rare
Is there a difference between Romano-Gallic and Gallic? Since we're tossing out Postumus... Gallic Empire, Postumus, AD 260-269 Billon Antoninianus, 1.5g, 20mm, 7h; Uncertain Gallic mint. Obv.: IMP C POSTVMVS PF AVG; Radiate, draped, cuirassed bust right. Rev.: PROVIDENTIA AVG; Providentia standing left, holding globe and scepter
You guys make me laugh => I love that collecting coins with you guys is a "fun and easy" experience ... I don't need serious in my hobby-life => thanks for making it fun (I love you dudes)
Great coin Steve - Marius is definitely one of the rarer emperors to check off the list, but not especially difficult. The coin evidence is what makes the tradition of a two-or-three-day rule highly suspect. Even for a rare emperor, there are just way, way too many coins for a minting run of a couple of days. Two or three months I can believe.
