Yup, today was a mighty fine day in Coin-Land, my friends!! => I scored "4" sweet targets!! (at nice enough prices too ... I'm thinking that the up-coming CNG printed auction kept a few dudes from big-spending at today's e-auction?) ... regardless ... "CHA-CHING" Doug actually showed TIF and I this coin a couple of weeks ago (it was one of his coin-targets) ... but as it grew closer to the auction I contacted Doug and we determined that I was far more horny for this puppy than he was, so he gave me the green-light to chase this baby to the finish-line!! ... in the end, it wasn't a blood-bath ($130 Hammer ... $100 initial estimate) ... anyway ... I loved this cartoonish looking coin when he showed it to me ... and I knew/hoped that it was comin' home to The North ... => and it did!! SICILY, Akragas, Æ Onkia Circa 425/0-410/06 BC Diameter: 14 mm Weight: 1.65 grams Obverse: Crab Reverse: Head of eagle right Reference: CNS 87; HGC 2, 153 Other: 11h … dark green patina, some cleaning marks under beak
CONGRATS!!! I was looking at / toying with that one. Did not bid. Great coin, Dude! I know you like pile-on's, so I am going to do it without your asking... so here is a recent OINK that I captured: ONK-ONK-ONK... Three Onks in a row! SICILY, Akragas. congrats Steve, seeing the crab, i was seeing your eagle as an squid, but this eagle is better of being an eagle cheers eric
Thanks for the coingrats, fellas ... Oh, and thanks for running ahead and posting your fricken Akragas coin, Gandalf (you're fricken cocky, but you're awesome) => Gandalf is 100% correct => "please" post anything that even resembles something relevant (ummm, relevant = elephant = underpants) for example
Ummm, like how 'bout these cool Sicily, Akragas examples ... => these are pretty relevant, eh? => Eagles and Crabs!! ... good times!!
Nice addition @stevex6 I only picked up one coin in todays auction. Not a ONK or a crab though. I have to admit though when I first bid on it a couple of weeks ago it was because the die break made me think a crab or beetle was fixing to take a chunk out of her eye. THESSALY, Larissa. Late 4th-early 3rd centuries BC. AR Hemidrachm (14mm, 1.88 g, 3h). Head of the nymph Larissa facing slightly left / ΛΑΡΙΣ-ΑΙΩ[Ν], horse right, preparing to lie down; Ξ below. BCD Thessaly I –; BCD Thessaly II 339; HGC 4, 514. VF, lightly toned, die break on the obverse.
ahaha => that's an awesome score, Smojo (congrats, coin-bro) Ummm, well you show me yours and I'll show you mine ... => my example has an eye-goobie, rather than a nose-booger
Great little crab coin stevex6 nice pick up, also love your top Onkia Alegandron seen that somewhere and was nearly going to buy it, refresh my memory where did you get it? I got a Hemilitrion, shame about the eagles head otherwise a good crab.
AA => I've had it for years ... but occasionally I've seen them for sale ... I absolutely "love" those cool ol' cast AE babies (the oldest AE coins "ever")
Ex: Coin Demi-God @John Anthony the RECENT JA Auction 84 Had to have it: Akragas, Crab, Fly, Eagle, Fish, Conch, I am a Cancer, did not have a Crab, etc. etc. etc. CRAPLOAD of stuff with this coin! etc. etc. etc.
Ooops sorry, I misunderstood (I thought you were asking me about my coin) Carry-on ... I'll just get ready for Round-2 of the NHL Playoffs!! (oooow, I bet that we're all soooo excited, eh?)
Awesome comments and coins, gang ... thanks, I always appreciate feedback and I absolutely love seeing other people's cool examples!!
