Hey, I have been trying to score one of these fantastic coin-types for years ... => and then "BOOM" there it was!! Yah, I scored this from my favourite coin buddy (so it was a double cha-ching!!) Hey, I admit that the corroded obverse die keeps this baby out of AJ's wheelhouse, but after staring at it for a while, I knew that this freak was all mine!! I fell in love with the gorgeous dark toning ... yah, I'm a total sucker for sweet toning!! => but when he said that he'd reduce his price drastically for his coin-friend, then I knew for sure that this sweet big-headed coin had found a home!! (I hope you coin-friends see some love in this sweet coin) Pisidia, Selge AR Stater 325-250 BC Diameter: 24.1 mm Weight: 9.43 grams Obverse: Two wrestlers grappling, K between Reverse: Slinger; triskels above, club and cornucopia right Reference: Other: Obverse die slightly corroded, gorgeous dark toning Yah ... and he even gave me two sweet coin photos (yummy-yummy) I'm fairly sure that a few of you great coiners have a couple of examples ... I'd love to see 'em!! Oh, and today is Canadian Thanksgiving so please feel free to post "anything" Cheers ... this place rocks!! => Oh, and there is even NFL in the background!! (have I died and gone to heaven?)
Total winner, Steve-O Naked wrestlers? Check. Svelte slinger? Check. Triskeles? Check. Club? Check. Cornucopia? Check. (sniffle) I don't have any naked wrestler coins .
Thanks TIF ... yes, and you're very observant and correct that the reverse is chalked-full-of yummy symbols!! (it is kinda rare to see all three symbols on the reverse) you rock!!
Absolutely fantastic coin @stevex6 !!! I LOVE IT!!! So while I have the NFL on 'pause', I'll post my far less toned example that I purchased from a well-known member months ago; a stater of Aspendos, Pamphylia:
Happy Canadian Thanksgiving day, eh! A few weeks ago I broke custom and posted some coins I hadn't yet received. I'm going to do that again because this coin is perfect for a Steve thread and for Thanksgiving, plus I probably won't receive the coin until sometime next year (yeah, it's coming from Austria). Check out this gloriously awkward ostrich! The engraver really captured the goofy way they run THRACE, Hadrianopolis. Gordian III AE 18 mm, 2.59 gm Obv: AVT K M ANT ΓORΔIANOC AVΓ; laureate, draped and cuirassed bust right. Rev: AΔPIANOΠOΛEITΩN; ostrich running like @stevex6 is chasing it with a basting brush Ref: Varbanov 3833. Rare.
