ANCIENTS - Max. Herc. - Alexandrian Jupiter

Another recent purchase is this Alexandrian Follis of Maximinaus Herculius. A nice chunky follis from one of my favourite mints.

Obv:– IMP C MAXIMIANVS P F AVG, Laureate head right
Rev:– IOVI CONS CAES, Jupiter standing left, holding Victoriola in right hand, leaning on sceptre in left, chlamys over left shoulder
Minted in Alexandria (S | D/P //ALE). A.D. 305 to A.D. 306

Nice coin Martin..........I'd have to get that green hoard deposit removed if it were mine as the underlying bronze patina and base metal seem to be superb. I love these large folles. He has a neck like a bull!

 

Very nice in all respects! The photo makes the green look stable and I'd not touch it.

 

The green is a hard sufrace encrustation rather than a soft BD. I am loathe to go anywhere near it as I would be certain to damage the coin and I find it adds somewhat to the character.

 

Very nice coin, green and all. I certainly wouldn't attempt to remove it. Love the coin.

Max seems to have sideburns and a partial beard but I'm wondering if the space between is textured skin or 5 o'clock shadow rather than a full beard.
