Bought this not long ago, debating whether to try carefully prying the red concretion from the obverse. What do you think, try it or leave it?

Leave it. It may look worse once removed. It's a nice coin as is.

I wouldnt have bought the coin at all cause of it. I would leave it though as mentioned by JW. Never know whats under it. Could open it to bronze disease.

    chrsmat71 I LIKE TURTLES!

spots like that bug me, but as other have said...when i try to do something about them, seems like is makes things worse more often than not. its still a nice looking coin!

I don't mind the concretion much but it is very tempting to pry at it.

It's still a lovely coin, not common, and the presence of the spot likely allowed me to get it for a better price.

Speaking of rarity, is there an online resource for looking up RIC rarity ratings?

Looks a bit like a nose ring. Apparently they are stylish now. Ol' Daia was just fashion-forward. Here's his descendant:

So this is a booger thread now? Remember that scene from Ghostbusters when Venkman gets slimed?

Sorry TIF, I tried ... *sigh*

=> Epic Fail => sorry, I'm not savvy enough to find a coin Divus Marcus Aurelius, struck under Commodus, with Antoninus Pius on the reverse!!

Hey Tif, regardless => ERIC-II only gives an overall generic rarity-rating for a particular ruler ... not on an individual coin rarity-rating ...

=> yup, for that, you'd have to buy my idol's books (Emperor David Sear)

    ;)

I really should buy some books. Hate to bother with the RIC books though since I don't have many Romans and don't plan to start buying bunches of them.

Or worse, I'll buy the books and then start buying more Imperials.
Just one more. Oh, I don't have that one. Well if I'm going to get one of those I should get the series. Well if I'm going to get that series I should also get the rest of the Flavians...
