Yah, I could have pretended that I researched this subject and then gone through the effort of manually typing it out for you fellas (100% plagiarizing) .... but I'm bigger than that, so instead => I cut and paste some wiki-ness for ya

=> enjoy!! (I read it and it was interesting)

Thanks, gang ... yah, it's not dead-center of my collecting wheelhouse, but I've always liked my Seljuks of Rum example, so I figured that I should get a play-date for that sweet coin (Doug showed me this cool hawk example a few years ago, but it has taken me this long to find a "thrifty" enough example)

    ... I love it

Oh, and here is that other example that I mentioned (you all know it)

    Seljuqs of Rum, Kaykhusraw II
    Silver Dirham

    Konya Mint
    1241-1242 A.D. (AH639)
    Diameter: 23 mm
    Weight: 2.9 grams
    Obverse: Sun and Lion
    Reverse:
    Other: A-1218 … SLJQ-503

What do you suppose is going on with the hawk? Is that wind or maybe clouds around the hawk, in flight? Heck, I guess it could just be flair or even writing, I don't know. These are both interesting coins @stevex6 !

    Interesting coin Steve!
I'm guessing that kind of stuff is illegal in Canada as well...

I love the Mongols, history's ultimate barbarian horde. They must have been an amazing sight in full battle kit on top of their Mongolian ponies. I'm sure all the people they steamrolled over in their path for world conquest would have disagreed.

Nice bird @stevex6 . You always manage to find the cool animals. You are quite the ancient/medieval zoo keeper.

Steve, the Hawk is amazing. I love the artistry... The hawk reminded me of Celtic artistry, but on an Islamic coin...
