Havent been into coins as of late. Been flipping over to other hobbies as I normally do.

Ive had this for a little over a month. Its a new addition to my set of AR Lucilla. Ive been in a rut since the reverses I need are on the very scarce/rare side. This latest addition is one of the more easier reverses to get for the rare ones.

Many have come and gone but at prices I didnt wanna pay. Ended up getting this at a price I was comfortable with.

Some collectors already think its a diadem/crown on her head, its not, its the same style as this lucilla of mine.

Awesome Lucilla's! I have been eyeing a sestertius for myself. Nothing near the quality of these fine pieces.

I really doesn't looks like a diadem or crown. Having seen the extravegant hairstyles on the Roman ladies it really doesn't surprise me that it could be mistaken for a crown.

Now my IDing isn't that good but would your second coin be from an Eastern mint? It reminds me a lot of Doug's Julia Domna's. Especially around the eyes.

I know what you mean about other hobbies. Every now and then I find myself looking at all sorts of things specifically old books and maps.

Great coins, Mat! The portrait of Hilaritas on the first is superb.

I have never seen an eastern mint Lucilla. Dont think there was any ever issued. Tetradrachms are even very rare.

Nice looking addition Mat. Good detail especially on the reverse.

I only own one Lucilla with Pudicitia reverse and it's in poor condition compared to yours.

I only say that because of the eyes they look so much like Doug's Julia Domna.

I like the large branch! I find it so hard to stay focused. Keep your eyes peeled and you will find your needed reverses. What would be the point of collecting them if it were too easy to get them all...

I don't see any Eastern blood and am aware of none in the literature.

I don't recall if I have shown this before. I got it from NFA years ago.

    Beautiful new addition, Mat!!

=> sadly, I don't have an example to toss into the ol' coin ring (*sigh* ... I need to buy more coins)

Thats true, its just taking longer then I thought it would, especially for one particular reverse.

Nice Lucilla doug, great details. Didnt think you even had one of her since you mentioned in the past you have little interest in her.

    My Pietas reverse:

When you have collected for 50 years, having only two of something common qualifies as 'little interest'. My other has less pleasing style to me.

That one is nice, it is a common reverse though.

I like the portrait on mine more but its a very dark coin.

Indeed, and one I technically need for ALL reverses but I have the other seated concordia type and never had the desire to get this particular one as there isnt any huge differences.

Now the super rare standing concordia on the other hand....

Just curious Mat, why the special interest in Lucilla?

I picked her as well as Crispina, whom I am done with, to build a set on because they both didnt have too many reverses to pick from & the sets would be affordable to build. Little did I know Lucilla had some reverses that didnt come to market often and then I found 2 that are super rare & may take years before either surface...so I am ignoring them to include in my set unless either surface and its affordable but I am not holding my breath.

They both are footnotes in history but for some reason I have been attracted to their coinage.

I couldnt see doing Faustina Sr./Jr. or Domna since they both have too many reverses as well as extremely rare reverses that get fought over when they do surface.

Eventually I will add an AE of each just for the larger portrait.

That makes perfect sense - you can assemble more-or-less complete sets because there aren't so many varieties. I've thought of picking up two more Theodoras for the same reason. If you've got one from Trier, Rome, and Constantinople, you've got all the mints.

    Anyway, great collecting!
