Yup, a mere $57 US (delivered) brought this amazingly cool Phoenician baby to Northern Manitoba!! ... man, I love ancient coins ... => I can buy a 2400 year old silver coin for the same price as taking my sweet wife out for a nice meal (both are good times) I bought two humble coins tonight ... this is the first of the two Phoenicia, Sidon, 1/16 AR Shekel 401-366 BC Diameter: 8.35 mm Weight: 0.72 grams Obverse: Galley left Reverse: King slaying erect lion References: Other: Cool reverse ... sure, the obverse is a bit weak, but the cool King and Lion made me want it!! Did I mention that this baby is 2400 years old (and 8 fricken mm ... seriously, how did this coin survive that long?!)
Ummm, I often seem to forget to invite you folks to "bring-it" when you see one of my new coins, you dudes should think "wow, that kinda reminds me of my ... " => and then you should "bring-it!!"
Here, I'll show ya ... Wha? .. hey, that coin kinda reminds me of my Runnin' King coin ... ... I like you folks ... Coins are fun
Man, that King is such a killjoy, isn't he? Whenever I see these types, I like to think that he's teaching the lion how to dance rather than slaying it. Anyway, I don't have one to share, but cool Friday night score. The reverse is great.
Great coin Steve , the king probably killed the lion, because the lion killed the King's bull or horse earlier.
Hey Andres, that's a great coin ... I happen to have one of those babies as well Phoenicia, Byblos King Uzzibaal AR 1/16 Shekel Date: 365-350 BC Size: 11.03 mm Weight: 0.76 grams Obverse: two hoplites with shields in war galley sailing left (roaring lion’s head on prow), hippocamp swimming left below (N O in field) Reverse: Phoenician inscription; Lion attacking bull, left Reference: BMC 6 Other: A nice example with bold detail and near perfect centering which is seldom seen in the issue (on a sweet big flan)
Oooow, that opened-up a lot of pile-on possibilities: Phoenician coins Shekels Hippocamps Lions & Bulls Gallies Kings Hey, and it's Saturday morning => lets' see some cartoons!! Oh, and did I mention underwear?
What great reverses!!! I think that's a terrific bargain!! Did you really post this at 2 in the morning---I think even the 'cartoon shows' are still sleeping LOL... I need my coffee and a 'loony toons' fix before I post my 'pile ons'
Ahahaha, I hadn't gone to bed yet ... Friday night I reset "time" Well, I may as well keep applying lotion, eh? => here are a couple of my other cool Phoenician examples ... Phoenicia, Tyre. Ms Stevex6 must be a saint for accepting to watch a TV program while Mr Stevex6 is coining, instead of having good time together in a nice and romantic restaurant downtown on friday night... BTW, nice coins (worth the argument) and funny lion, and I love the dolphin/owl thing Q

I always LOVE to see TIF's coins !!! Super Carthaginian examples Brian!! I have a pricey Tet I 'purchased' (one payment left on lay-a-way) still pending from FORVM. I'll post it late next month. BTW Steve: I see the King 'training' the lion to 'stand tall' and then offering him a treat I can't seem to find my 'hippo-camp' so I'll post a 'lion' and a coin about as old, for about the same cost, size and weight of the OP; Thaos, .8g, 11mm circa 411 BC----- and my drachm of a 'Gaulish lion' struck at Massila....
