Yah, I've looked in awe at some of these electrum babies, but until today, I shied-away and thought to myself

=> "Self, those are big-boy coins ... those Goldilocks aren't for the likes of you!!"

... but when this sweet lil' coin stayed within my budget, I lept-out like a starvin' Moray-eel and took-out Nemo!!

=> man, I sure hope that you awesome coin-buddies think that this coin is as cool as I do!!

LESBOS, Mytilene. EL Hekte – Sixth Stater
    Circa 478-455 BC
    Diameter: 10 mm
    Weight: 2.48 grams
    Obverse: Ram’s head right
    Reverse: Incuse bull’s head right
    Reference: Bodenstedt Em. 27; HGC 6, 954

Electrum is a naturally occurring alloy of gold and silver, with trace amounts of copper and other metals. It has also been produced artificially, and is often known as green gold. The ancient Greeks called it 'gold' or 'white gold', as opposed to 'refined gold'. Its colour ranges from pale to bright yellow, depending on the proportions of gold and silver.

Sweet coin! And to think it was minted half a millennia before Christ. Just amazing.

I can't believe you didn't have an electrum coin until now. The designs are bread and butter Stevex animal coins. That is one awesome coin.

Now that you have a taste of gold does that mean more is on the way after this one?

Hey, am I merely imagining, or is there a bull's head or maybe a bucranium hidden within the incuse reverse? (ahhh, I'm probably merely seeing shapes in the clouds, eh?)

i posted a 1970-s penny and two people said MD. it just means there is a large and small date.

You are posting in a thread about ancient coins, which has no relevance to your topic...And MD means machine doubling and has nothing to do with small or large dates.

Anyway Stevex, I like the coin! Eels are pretty cool, but if I were in the ocean I would steer away from the holes in the rocks where they live... :D
