Oh, and yes => I totally got sucked-in when I noticed that this baby had a countermark (and a cool one => a sweet anchor!!)

... the coin had me at "elephant" ... but yah, the gratuitous countermark cemented the deal!!

Elephant and a CM to boot. Nice coin. Don't spend the kid's inheritance!

Great piece, Jerry! Fabulous. I spent this morning admiring all the elephant coins in the Seleucids - you must be psychic. What a bonus that the countermark doesn't interfere with the elephant - it's the best of both worlds.

I know this, but you have your dogs. They're like our kids, right?

I can't recall seeing an anchor c/m on and anchor coin so that adds an extra cool factor. You can add this one to the ones I inherit when you decide to adopt me. ;)

Doug and I may be old enough to be your father, but we can both be adopted. Heck, I'll even pee my pants if it makes you feel better. But then, you will have to divide things up between us when the time comes.

If I'm going to get adopted, I'll take Ancient Joe.

Smart guy. Hey, can I be adopted by more than one? Maybe AJ, Med-man, Ard-man, Ides-o-March and Valentinian might consider Doug and me

LOL, I thought this was going to be an 'everyone post their ___' thread. Wasn't sure if it was anchors or Antiochos. Must be tired.

So... disregard my prior post. And here's a pic of Auntie. Ochos times. With anchor. :D

Well OK then. Here's one with an anchor. Bought it by accident the other day. Was skyping with my mom while keeping an eye on an auction. The lot I wanted was coming up. Got distracted, looked back at the screen, thought it was on the block with 3 seconds to go, hit bid. Wrong coin. Two and a half seconds later I was the new owner of this coin, which I know nothing about. [shrug]

    Apollonia PontikaDrachmGorgon.jpg
THRACE. Apollonia Pontika. Drachm (Mid-late 4th century BC).
    Obv: Facing gorgoneion.
Rev: Upright anchor; A to left, crayfish to right.
    Topalov, Apollonia p. 348, 11.
    Condition: Good very fine.
    Weight: 3.2 g.

    Diameter: 10 mm.

It's pretty cool though. Microscopic, but cool. Guess I'll hang on to it.

=> get it? .... that is an Antiochos coin (Antiochos VI) ...

... ummm, do any of you have an "Antiochos #x" coin to post? (please feel free to post) ...

Or any "anchor" coins ... or any super-cool coins that I'd think were pretty cool?

=> yup, the only stupid coin, is the coin not posted (I've heard that somewhere) ... kind of

    ;)
