Another tiny treasure from the Goldberg lot. This one is pretty interesting. I think the attribution is correct but I haven't found any pictures or descriptions for comparison other than an unimaged link in WildWinds (under the Greek by Sear number list). There are a few similar bronze coins from Mytilene in a larger bronze denomination. I'm going through .pdf files of old public domain ancient coin references, hoping for a direct reference other than the WildWinds entry. I may have found one in MacDonald's book. There are some other websites which house online references but some of them are either down right now or I can't access them from my location. LESBOS, Mytilene 400-350 BC AE14, 1.7 gm Obv: head of Aphrodite (?) right, wearing stephane Rev: M-Y, T-I; lyre; tripod (?, looks like an arrow) in left field, monogram in right field Ref: SG 4272, BMC 55-57 (per WildWinds); may also be MacDonald Mytilene #4.
The Goldberg lot held no disappointments whatsoever. It's been a ton of fun and I like all of the coins... will probably keep all of them. The Stack's mixed lot was the one I was griping about initially. I'll probably trade away 1/3 of the Stack's lot.
Wow => sweet, sweet addition, C-Princess ... I also have some hot, sweet Lesbos action!! (man, I love writing that and knowing that it can't be edited!!)
